ERIC frey, ph.d.


Eric C. Frey, Ph.D., COO, CFO, is a Professor of Radiology, Environmental Health Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Oncology at Johns Hopkins University. He received is Ph.D. in Physics from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He did postdoctoral training in the Radiology and Biomedical Engineering Departments, rising to the rank of Associate Professor before moving to Johns Hopkins University in 2002. He is a pioneer in the development of iterative reconstruction and compensation methods for single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Reconstruction developed in his lab was licensed to GE Healthcare for applications in diagnostic nuclear cardiology and oncology is used at more than 5,000 sites worldwide. He served as a co-entrepreneurial lead during RAPID’s ICORPS participation and is the co-PI of RAPID’s first SBIR grant and PI of their Maryland Innovation Initiative Company Formation award. He is author of over 130 peer reviewed journal papers. He gives frequent invited talks in quantitative SPECT imaging and other topics. He is also recognized expert in objective assessment of image quality. He has been a PI of NIH grants worth more than 17 million dollars. He has been a reviewer of grants for several NIH study sections including those reviewing SBIR grants and for the Radiation Therapy and Biology Study section. He has served as a frequent consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency in quantitative imaging. He has been the advisor for 17 students who received Ph.D. degrees.
